SEVEN Networks CTO to Speak on Mobile Data Tsunami at Emerging Communications Conference

REDWOOD CITY, California June 27th, 2011 SEVEN® Networks, a provider of innovative mobile solutions that deliver a Real Life, Real Time experience, announced that Michael Luna, chief technology officer, will speak as part of the Emerging Communications Conference & Awards (eComm), happening June 27–29 at the San Francisco Airport Marriott in Burlingame, Calif.

On Wednesday, June 29 at 9:45 a.m. PDT, Luna will present on "How Moving to 4G Doesn't Solve the Mobile Data Tsunami Problem." In his presentation, Luna will provide an overview of the entire mobile content delivery system from the end–user behavior and mobile apps to the device and network, highlighting how the back–end application systems contribute to the mobile data tsunami. Luna will also examine many of the emerging solutions to address data challenges including fast dormancy, network upgrades, traffic offloading and traffic optimization.

The eComm conference was established in 2008 to provide an independent forum to showcase and accelerate innovation across communications technology and services. Its mission is to ensure an open exchange of vision and ideas in order to positively influence the future of technology–mediated–communications through education, research, and events. The conference brings together visionaries, thinkers, designers, executives, engineers and entrepreneur's to debate, discuss, inspire and showcase the future of technology–mediated–communications.

"While many carriers are turning to 4G networks to deal with the onslaught of smartphone data users, this doesn't address another critical problem that lies in the surge in mobile data brought on by chatty apps constantly polling the network for updates," Luna said. "What's needed is a way to tackle network issues from end–to–end and I look forward to sharing how traffic optimization will help carriers to reduce network congestion cost–effectively, and with no changes to the network."

As CTO for SEVEN, Luna is responsible for the company's long–term technology and innovation strategy. Prior to joining SEVEN, Luna held leadership positions with Jawbone, Openwave Systems and 724 Solutions. Luna has co–authored industry standards and held industry leadership positions in OMA, WAP Forum, CDG, TIA and PCMIA.
